Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced today that his administration will continue its War on Drugs by offering an upcoming series of community forums with a panel of experts in the fields of substance abuse treatment, recovery, criminal justice and law enforcement to answer questions about what to do and how to deal with your loved one, no matter what age, who has a substance abuse problem. County staff will also train and provide attendees over the age of 18 with nasal Narcan or Naloxone kits, which can reverse the fatal effects of a Heroin or Prescription painkiller overdose.
“You can get your loved one help and hope by attending one of our community forums,” said County Executive Mangano. “Understand your loved one’s addiction. Hear solutions from a variety of professionals. And learn how you can save a life by administering a medication that reverses an Opiate overdose.”
The upcoming series of community forums will each be offered from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00p.m. at the following locations and on the following dates:
Entitled: “You’re Not Alone,” the forums include informal group discussions with the experts, including some one-on-one time to chat and ask private questions, and Narcan training will be offered during the second half of each event. The panel also includes an addict in recovery, as well as the parent of someone in recovery, to offer their perspectives.
The events are being hosted by the Nassau County Prescription Drug Misuse and Abuse Prevention Task Force, which was created by County Executive Mangano after the fatal Medford Pharmacy robbery in 2010.
