Mangano, Hannon & O'Connell Welcome Back Hundreds Of Children And Teachers After Ten Years Of School Closure

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano, New York State Senator Kemp Hannon and Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell joined with Hempstead School Officials at a ribbon cutting ceremony for Prospect School which had been previously closed for over 10 years due to many safety, health and structural hazards. The newly refurbished school, which opened its doors today, is being used as a district-wide kindergarten center. The opening of the Prospect School will allow the district to move students out of portable classrooms and help alleviate overcrowding concerns.

The Prospect School, originally built over 100 years ago, has new classrooms and furniture, a playground and library, parking lot resurfacing and other improvements and amenities. NBA Basketball legend Julius Erving, also known as"Dr. J", attended the elementary school while growing up as a child in Hempstead, New York.
