Mangano Expands Crime Stoppers Program With New Mobile Application

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today expanded the current Crime Stopper Program to include a new crime fighting tool that allows citizens to anonymously report crime tips via text message and phone calls through a new Nassau County Mobile Crime Stopper Application. The application includes photos and information about crimes.

“Nassau County is the safest large county in America as we have reduced crime by 10% over the past four years with the assistance of technology,” said County Executive Mangano. “With expansion of the Crime Stopper Program, we enhance our abilities and make it easier for residents to share information with law enforcement officials so that we can solve crimes using the latest technology.”

Free in the app store, the new Nassau County Mobile Crime Stopper Application is available for Android, iOS, Windows platform, and most smart phones from the last two years. Citizens can download the application to their smartphone and/or tablet by entering Nassau County, Nassau Police, and/or NY Crime Stoppers. From the application, residents report crime tips via text message.

Similar to the Crime Stoppers Hotline, tipsters remain anonymous when providing information about a crime. If the information leads to an arrest, the tipster is eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000. The program is funded by private donations and fundraising efforts of the Crime Stoppers Board. No taxpayer dollars fund the program.

Numerous high-profile cases have been solved as a result of information received by the Crime Stoppers Tip Hotline (1-800-244-TIPS).
