Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi has announced that effective January 4, 2010 the new public service hours for the Nassau County Department of Social Services and all Health and Human Services Departments will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 am - 4 pm, while Thursdays will remain open from 8 am - 8 pm.
Mr. Suozzi noted that beginning in early September, DSS initiated a Pilot Project to begin serving the public at 8 am in an effort to better manage the growing volume of traffic to DSS and other HHS Departments. “Based on a number of studies, client and staff surveys we initiated to monitor the pilot, we found that the earlier opening times dramatically improved our ability to manage the high volume without reducing any of our services. Since similar results were replicated as the pilot continued through October and up to the present time, we decided we had to make the change.”
DSS Commissioner John Imhof noted that, “Since we expect our volume to grow as the economy continues to create financial difficulties for so many individuals and families, we anticipate this initiative will further improve the efficiency and delivery of DSS services to our Nassau County residents.
