Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano is pleased to announce that Dr. John Imhof, Commissioner of the Nassau County Department of Social Services, has been re-appointed to a second term as the At Large District X (Long Island) Representative for the New York Public Welfare Association’s (NYPWA) Board of Directors.
NYPWA represents fifty-eight local departments of social services in New York State. NYPWA in partnership with local social service departments are committed to improving the quality and effectiveness of social welfare policy for New York’s citizens.
In addition to working collaboratively with counties, NYPWA also provides information and technical assistance to federal, state, and local policy makers.
“Dr. Imhof brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to both the New York Public Welfare Association and the Nassau County Department of Social Services, “ said County Executive Mangano. “He is dedicated to the Department’s mission, which involves strengthening and preserving families. His leadership at DSS during these tough economic times has been a tremendous benefit both to staff and the residents of the County.”
Dr. Imhof has an extensive background in public service, health care administration and education. Prior to being appointed Commissioner of DSS he served as Commissioner of the Nassau County Department of Drug and Alcohol Addiction.
Dr. Imhof holds a doctorate in psychology and three master’s degrees in social work, health care administration and education. He serves on several community boards and in 2010 was appointed by County Executive Mangano as Chairperson of the County Executive’s Task Force on Family Violence.
“Through Dr. Inhofe’s leadership, the Task Force on Family Violence has come up with excellent recommendations which all are being implemented, “added County Executive Mangano. “He is a strong advocate in helping deliver our message that "Violence is not the answer.’”
