Mangano Announces Nassau County Social Service Volunteers to Sponsor Holiday Party for Foster Children on December 29th

Mineola, NY – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced today that the Social Services Volunteers of Nassau will be hosting their annual Holiday Party for children in foster care on Thursday, December 29, 2011 from 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at  the Marriott Hotel, located at 101 James Doolittle Boulevard, Uniondale, NY. This is the 34th year that this heartwarming event is being held.

“The Social Services Volunteers sponsor and financially support an incredible party for Nassau County youth who are in foster care.  We are very grateful for their dedication and generosity, and fortunate to have such caring individuals giving back to our community,” said County Executive Mangano.

Every child in foster care will receive a gift from Santa and Mrs. Claus, and the Operation Pride Dance Team and Operation Pride Step Team will also entertain our children, foster families and invited guests.   In addition to a disc jockey providing musical entertainment, the youngsters will be invited to participate in a talent show.

“Children and their foster families will be dancing to music, siblings will be singing holiday songs, and youngsters will be playing musical instruments at the party.  It is truly an inspiring day,” said Social Services Commissioner John E. Imhof.

There are also other activities for children at the party.  Junior and Senior High School students, in addition to several Girl Scout Troops throughout Nassau County, will be setting up craft tables.  Children in foster care can make beaded bracelets and necklaces, have their faces painted, and get temporary tattoos.  Several teenage groups have also helped the Social Services Volunteers in organizing the toys for the party and making sure every gift is wrapped.  There are more than 400 gifts wrapped and ready to give out on December 29th.
