Mineola, NY – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today commended members of the County’s Task Force on Family Violence for their accomplishments to date and accepted their recommendations for 2012.
“The Task Force on Family Violence is a wonderful example of dedicated professionals from education, community services, law enforcement, the judiciary and government working together to address Family Violence – without question one of the most serious social issues of our time,” stated County Executive Mangano. “Yesterday I had the opportunity to meet with the distinguished members of the Task Force and reviewed their new list of recommendations. This Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano, center, is joined by the Task Force on Family Violencecommitted group of professionals has done an outstanding job raising awareness regarding family and domestic violence to the residents of our county. I look forward to their continuing work in the coming year.”
The 2012 Family Violence Task Force recommendations include the creation of several new committees that will focus on areas such as high school youths dramatizing the issues of family and domestic violence through a video contest; targeting college and law school students to initiate programs related to dating violence and sexual assault; distributing written materials to hospital emergency rooms, doctor’s offices and health care facilities which lists the signs and symptoms of family and domestic violence and provides agency contact information that can offer assistance.
Social Services Commissioner John E. Imhof, who chairs the Family Violence Task Force said, “We are grateful to the County Executive for embracing the committee’s 2012 recommendations and for all his support. The committee has worked hard to accomplish the goals set forth in 2011 and we will continue our efforts to educate residents and help reduce family violence throughout our county in the coming year.”
