Nassau Inter-County Express Bus (NICE)

Buses in Nassau County operate as Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE) Bus under a public-private partnership between Nassau County and Veolia Transportation.

   •    The NICE Bus network links communities via 49 routes in Nassau County, western Queens and eastern Suffolk County.
   •    In 2012, LI Bus carried 30 million passengers.
   •    LI Bus Fleet includes over 300 fixed route buses and more than 90 para-transit vehicles.

  • MetroCard is the light, plastic card that allows you to pay your fare electronically on all NICE Bus routes and New York City Transit buses and subways. You can choose between several kinds of MetroCard to pay your NICE Bus fare:
    • Base MetroCard Fare – $2.50 (Cash Fare: $2.25)
    • Reduced MetroCard Fare - $1.25 (Cash Fare: $1.10)
    • 7-Day Unlimited – $30
    • 30-Day Unlimited – $112
    • Pay-Per-Ride Bonus: An additional 5% is added to your MetroCard with the purchase or addition of $5 or more.      
    • Fee for purchase of a new MetroCard – $1 -Fee applies to each new MetroCard purchased at station booth, vending machine or commuter rail station.
  • Senior citizens age 60 or over and Medicare card holders pay reduced half-fare at all times upon presentation of proper identification. A Reduced - Fare MetroCard is available to senior citizens and individuals with qualifying disabilities. For further information, call the Travel Information Center at (516) 228-4000.
  • Children under 44" tall ride free when accompanied by an adult. There is a limit of three children per adult.
  • Students through grade 12 receive reduced fares with a Reduced Fare ID MetroCard.

Where To Buy MetroCard

  • Unlimited Ride and Pay-Per-Ride MetroCards may be purchased at the NICE Bus Rosa Parks Hempstead Transit Center, any subway station, the MetroCard Express Van and more than 3,300 neighborhood stores. MetroCard Customer Service agents are available from 7 am to 11 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 5 pm on weekends. For additional information, CLICK HERE.
  • Mail & Ride enables commuters to receive their Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Monthly ticket at home with a MetroCard on the reverse side of their ticket.   • Web Ticket allows commuters to order tickets online and save 5% on One-Way, Round Trip, Ten Trip and Weekly tickets or Monthly tickets. Tickets are mailed in 3 to 5 business days.    •    The LIRR is the busiest commuter railroad in North America, carrying an average of 301,000 customers each weekday on 735 trains.
   •    Chartered on April 24, 1834, it is also the oldest railroad still operating under its original name, and in 2009 the LIRR is celebrating its 175 anniversary.
   •    The LIRR is comprised of over 700 miles of track serving 124 stations - 58 in Nassau County.
