Mineola, NY - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Deputy Presiding Officer Legislator John Ciotti are pleased to announce Elmont Health Checks, a local community health event for Elmont residents.
Elmont Health Checks is a pilot initiative developed by Deputy Presiding Officer Legislator Ciotti, Commissioner of Health Dr. Maria Torroella Carney, Arthur Gianelli, President and CEO of NuHealth and Randi Dresner, President and CEO of Island Harvest. The mission of Health Checks is to promote access to health care, encourage preventive health screenings, connect people to available social programs and provide residents with information to help them live a healthier lifestyle.
This collaborative effort, involving many county agencies and related health and human service providers, will offer a variety of on-site services at no cost. Services to be offered include: blood pressure checks, physical assessments, a mobile dental van to conduct pediatric dental services and adult screenings, exercise sessions, health insurance and WIC applications initiated, veterans benefits, sessions in food preparation and instructions on growing a healthy garden. In addition, a mammography van will be on-site to conduct no cost screening to those women with a prescheduled appointment, who are over 40 and do not have health insurance. To schedule an appointment for a mammography, call 516.571.6203. Upon completing Health Checks, residents will receive a follow-up appointment at the Elmont Family Health Center.
