MANGANO AND EISENSTEIN PROMOTE THE IMPORTANCE
OF BREAKFAST DURING NATIONAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST WEEK:
MARCH 5TH – 9TH, 2012

Mineola, NY – In recognition of National School Breakfast Week, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Health Commissioner Dr. Lawrence Eisenstein are reminding parents and caregivers of the academic and nutritional benefits that breakfast plays in their children’s lives.

"By ensuring that our children start each day with a nutritious breakfast, we can further promote the importance that breakfast plays in academic achievement and living a healthy lifestyle," said County Executive Mangano. "Eating breakfast is important for everyone, but especially so for children and adolescents, I encourage all of our residents to start each day with breakfast."

"Numerous studies have shown the positive benefits that eating breakfast has on students' performance and overall health," said County Health Commissioner Lawrence Eisenstein, M.D. "Eating breakfast has shown improved concentration and performance in the classroom and establishes healthy habits for later in life."

National School Breakfast Week was created by the non-profit School Nutrition Association with support from General Mills Foodservice. This national campaign recognizes National School Breakfast Week, launched in 1989 to raise awareness of the availability of the School Breakfast Program (SBP) to all children and the links between eating a good breakfast, academic achievement and healthy lifestyles.
