On July 16, 2011 Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) held his sixth annual youth basketball league Roundball Classic at Centennial Park in Roosevelt. Roundball Classic (LKARC) is a volunteer- run organization created for youth to enjoy basketball as a sport, to improve their leadership skills, confidence, athleticism, experience teamwork and to have fun! This year’s classic also included tennis and golf clinics.
Legislator Abrahams said “It gives me great satisfaction to assist community youth. Encouraging sports program participation is a great source of summer recreation as well as a character builder for young people.”
The Roundball basketball teams included high school students from Uniondale, Hempstead, Harborfields, Baldwin, Oceanside and Roosevelt. The championship basketball winners were from Harborfields High School. The event had a great turnout with a lot of community involvement and volunteers. Sponsors of The Roundball Classic included Roosevelt PAL and Trevon and Hubert Moorer, a father and son team.
