Legislator Abrahams Urges Drivers to “Clean Off the Top”

During this stormy winter season, Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) urges all drivers of both passenger and commercial vehicles to clean off all snow and ice from their vehicles before getting on the road.

Legislator Abrahams said, “I encourage everyone to be considerate and make sure that their vehicle is not a threat to the safety and well being of everyone on the road during this winter season. It takes only a few minutes to remove the snow and ice from the top of your vehicle.”

There have been several reported incidents in which large chunks of residual snow and ice that had collected on the roof of either passenger cars; SUVs; box trucks; or tractor-trailers, became loose and airborne striking and distracting other drivers. These icy chunks can potentially cause significant property damage and more importantly, they create a grave risk of serious physical injury to other motorists and their passengers.
