Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) would like to remind residents that the deadline for mailing their 2010 Census Form is rapidly approaching. The10-question form everyone received by mail must be filled out and mailed by the April 1st.
Legislator Abrahams said, “Every resident must participate in the Census which is vital to our community’s future. By not filling it out the form and mailing it, critical funding for health care, day care and job training could disappear. An accurate headcount ensures that our needs and interests are on the radar of both Albany and Washington. The results of the Census decide the allocation of more than $400 billion in federal funds each year—money our community depends on for schools, hospitals, roadways, fire and police stations.”
Residents should be aware that the Census Bureau maintains the strictest of privacy policies and no personal information is shared with anyone. “The only Census Form available is the one mailed to the resident’s home. There is no form available on the Internet and the genuine Census form requests only your name and address….not your Social Security number or any banking information. If you are asked to go online or to provide this information on a form, it is not the genuine Census form that needs to be filled out,” concluded Legislator Abrahams.
