Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) encourages all County residents ages 18 to 24 to change their future by enrolling in United Way of Long Island’s “YouthBuild Long Island” program.
The qualifications for potential candidates who wish to enroll in YouthBuild Long Island are: they must be serious about their future and committed to changing their lives; they must be men and women ages 18 to 24, economically disadvantaged, not currently enrolled in school and looking to obtain their GED; they must be interested in obtaining a pre-Apprenticeship certificate in the construction trade and they must be Nassau County residents.
Enrollees will learn to construct homes using state-of-the-art green building techniques. They will be part of providing safe, affordable, environmentally-friendly housing for homeless and low income families in our community and will earn monetary and enrichment incentives as program tiers are completed.
