Nassau County Bar Assoc. Hosts Free Superstorm Sandy Consultations

and Mortgage Foreclosure Clinic

(MINEOLA, NY) – Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams, D-Freeport, would like to notify residents that the Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA) is offering free consultations to Nassau County homeowners who suffered damage to their homes and belongings as a result of Superstorm Sandy, or who may be facing mortgage foreclosure.

Two, free clinics for those affected by Sandy will be held Dec. 10, 10-12 noon and 3:30 – 6 p.m., and another two will be held on Dec. 17, 10-12 noon and 3:30 – 6 p.m. at the NCBA, located on 15th Street at the corner of West Street in Mineola.

Residents can meet one-on-one with volunteer attorneys to receive help in the following areas: Homeowner, flood, property damage, automobile insurance claims; FEMA assistance and grants; debt deferral; bankruptcy; consumer protection issues (contractors, etc.); landlord-tenant issues; assistance in dealing with lenders to avoid foreclosure; health/disability/personal injury/post-traumatic stress issues; pro bono Alternative Dispute Resolution (mediation and arbitration) for neighbor disputes arising from the storm.

NCBA is also offering a free consultation to help residents with any questions they may have about home foreclosure on Monday, Jan. 7. Come in for a one-on-one meeting with a volunteer attorney for advice and guidance.

It is recommended to pre-register by telephone. To reserve a spot, call (516) 747-4070. Anyone needing a consultation in a language other than English should make the request when calling to register. Attorneys fluent in Spanish, Korean, Russian, Haitian, Creole, or other languages will be made available upon request when registering. Residents are also encouraged to bring any significant documents, leases, insurance agreements or paperwork. Walk-ins are welcome.
