FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers in Freeport and Uniondale

Still Serving Hurricane Survivors

(FREEPORT, NY) – Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Freeport) would like to remind residents that the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) New York Disaster Recovery Centers remain open and available in both Freeport and Uniondale.

Disaster Recovery Centers are places for eligible storm survivors to get face-to-face help as quickly as possible. The following centers continue to service residents affected by Superstorm Sandy: Freeport Recreation Center, 130 E. Merrick Rd., Freeport, NY 11520, hours: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mon-Sun.; and Mitchell Field Athletic Center, 1 Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Uniondale, NY 11553, hours: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mon-Sun.

Federal disaster assistance for individuals and families can include money for rental assistance, essential home repairs, personal property loss and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.

Almost two months after Sandy surged through our communities, the State of New York and FEMA have continued to provide one-on-one, face-to-face help to people rebuilding their homes and lives following the storm. Recovery centers throughout New York have cumulatively hosted more than 83,000 Sandy survivors since Nov. 1, according to a recent news release, and have been positioned in various neighborhoods, boroughs and counties. A total of 27 New York Disaster Recovery Centers remain in place.
