· FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ·
(NASSAU COUNTY, NY) – Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams would like to advise residents that the exemptions filing period for the STAR program for the 2013-14 property tax year has been extended to April 1, 2013 for any Nassau County homeowner. A special exception to extend this deadline has been made due to Superstorm Sandy.
STAR is the New York State School Tax Relief Program that provides an exemption from school property taxes for owner-occupied, primary residences. Qualified homeowners of all ages, regardless of income, may apply. Seniors over the age of 65 whose income is less than $79,050 may apply for the “enhanced” STAR exemption.
The Nassau County Department of Assessment processes applications for property tax exemptions and the Basic and Enhanced STAR programs for qualifying Nassau County homeowners.
Basic and Enhanced STAR application forms, as well as a variety of other tax exemption forms for Nassau County homeowners, business owners and non-profit organizations, can be found online.
