Abrahams Invites Volunteers to Help with the Keep America Beautiful "Big Sweep"

Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead), would like to invite community volunteers to join the Town of Hempstead Sanitary District No. 2, the Roosevelt Community Revitalization Group and the South Hempstead Civic Association for the annual Keep America Beautiful “Big Sweep” on Saturday, May 21st. The day is dedicated to the community and sharing of efforts to ensure that our neighborhoods remain clean.

In cooperation with the Town of Hempstead Highway Department, Sanitary District No. 2 will supply gloves, bags and litter containers to all who attend. The District will supply a limited amount of brooms and shovels so please feel free to bring your own. Sanitation will also have tucks on the road assisting with cleanup for the day. All volunteers in Baldwin and South Hempstead are asked to meet at Sanitary District headquarters located at 2080 Grand Avenue, Baldwin, on May 21st at 7:30 a.m. Volunteers from Roosevelt and Uniondale are asked to meet at the Roosevelt Library located at 27 W. Fulton Ave., Roosevelt. All participants will be eligible to receive a community service letter for their efforts. All youth who attend will be assigned special supervised tasks to keep them safe from the main street traffic. First Precinct assistance will be on hand for purposes of safety control. Nassau Road Welcome to Roosevelt Sign (Near Western Entrance to Southern State Parkway)
Brookside Avenue Welcome to Roosevelt Sign (Near Eastern Exit from Southern State Parkway)
Bring Household Waste Only : Drop at one of the Clean-up sites before 12 noon
Weeds (bagged), Carpet (rolled and tied), Household trash

Do Not Bring:
Metal pipes and poles, tree trunks, chemicals, motor oil, Furniture, Construction materials, appliances (For information on disposal of these items and hazardous waste call- 516-223-3207)


Sanitation District #2 & Roosevelt Community Revitalization Group (RCRG) will provide trash bags, safety information and promotional materials. Bring your own brooms, shovels and rakes. We need donations: Flowers (perennials), Brooms, Shovels, Rakes, Juice, Water, Liquid Hand Sanitizer and Gloves.
