Legislator Francis X. Becker, Jr., joined the Nassau County Republican Legislators, and even coaxed one lone Democrat, to vote to defeat a bill which would increase fees for Nassau County Fire Marshal regulatory services. Presented to the full Legislature on April 25, the proposed legislation would require local businesses, large and small, to pay higher fees for permits, certificates, applications, approvals and licenses to remain compliant with the requirements set forth in the Nassau County Fire Prevention Ordinance.
“Increasing fees is not the way to fill county budget gaps. Many small businesses spend exorbitant amounts of money to comply with the Nassau County Fire Code, and they should not have to pay more. This legislation would have harmed our local businesses and I could not support it,” said Legislator Becker.
