Legislator Dunne Reports On Mill Pond Restoration Project

Nassau County Legislator Dennis Dunne, Sr. was recently at Mill Pond to check out the progress of the restoration project currently underway. The restoration project, scheduled to be completed by spring of 2007, consists of three main components:

  • 1. Dredging approximately 7,000 cubic yards of sediment from areas near the stream inlet locations of the pond.

  • 2. Removing a portion of the aquatic vegetation (as approved by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation) that causes the pond to appear choked.

  • 3. Completely renovate the southern shoreline and pedestrian areas, including new seating areas in which park visitors can enjoy scenic views.
