Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) encourages women to become involved in National Women’s Health Week, coordinated by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health, from May 10 to 16, and the 7th Annual National Women’s Checkup Day on May 11.
“Women need to be proactive when it comes to their health,” Legislator Jacobs said. “By making and keeping healthcare appointments and following other simple steps they will lead a longer, healthier life which is empowering.”
The North Shore LIJ Health System – Katz Women’s Hospital/Women’s Health Institute will lead the efforts in New York acting as the Women’s Checkup Pledge Center. Health information and the National Checkup Pledge will be available on their website at http://whi.northshorelij.com. Women will be able to take the National Women’s Checkup Day Pledge online and be counted.
In May, hospitals will offer informative programs on steps that can be taken to improve physical and mental health. There will also be information on how to lower the risks of certain diseases. For further information, contact Ivy Algazy at (718) 470-8726 or email her at ialgazy@nshs.edu.
