Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) urges all registered voters to participate in the all-important August 1 referendum which shall establish “the Nassau County Hub Area development program.” The referendum seeks voter authorization to spend up to $400 million, to be borrowed by the County and expended solely for the construction of projects in the Hub Area including a new Nassau Coliseum, a minor league baseball stadium and other projects.
Legislator Jacobs said, “This referendum represents a significant commitment of taxpayer dollars. I urge all residents to vote in the August 1 referendum. If you are going to be away on vacation, business or are unable to vote at your regular polling place you are entitled to vote by absentee ballot.”
Registered voters who anticipate being away on August 1 should apply for their absentee ballot as soon as possible. Completed ballots must be submitted or postmarked before August 1.
Applications for absentee ballots can be obtained by writing to or visiting the Nassau County Board of Elections, 240 Old Country Road, 5 Floor, Mineola, NY 11501. Applications are also available online at http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/BOE/allforms.html. For more information, please call the Board of Elections at 571-2411.
“I can’t stress enough the importance of this referendum. I strongly urge all voters to participate in this vital decision-making process. Remember, you must apply for absentee ballots as soon as possible in order to receive absentee ballots,” said Legislator Jacobs.
