Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano joined Legislator Rose Walker, and RXR Realty Chief Executive Officer Scott Rechler,in the Ceremonial Chambers at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola, to announce the 2013 RXR Long Island Marathon Weekend, which will be held Friday, May 3rd through Sunday, May 5th.The Long Island Marathon has grown to include a full and half marathon, 10K, 5K, 1-mile run, and Kids Fun Run.
“The Long Island Marathon is one of the Island’s most exciting events, and I am pleased to once again team up with the community of runners and RXR for the 2013 Long Island Marathon,” said County Executive Mangano.“As part of our Fit Nassau Initiative, I encourage everyone to use this opportunity to become physically active and participate in one of the races during the marathon, whether they choose to train for the 5K race or the full marathon.”

The festivities begin on Friday, May 3rd at 3:00 p.m. with a vendor expo at Mitchel Athletic Complex, followed by the Main Event “Carbohydration” Pasta Party at 6:30 p.m. courtesy of the Main Event Restaurant and Sports Bar.
The races begin on Saturday, May 4th, with the 1-mile run starting at 8:00a.m. Shortly thereafter, the 5K commencesat 8:30 a.m. Both the 1-mile and the 5K races start on Charles Lindbergh Blvd. and finish at Mitchel Athletic Complex. The last race of the day, The Kids Fun Run,will begin at 10:30 a.m.on the Mitchel track.
On Sunday, May 5th, the marathon, half marathon and 10K will take place. All participants will assemble at the starting line on Charles Lindbergh Blvd. for an 8:00 a.m. start. The races all offer the competitors a course with varying scenery and the opportunity to see prominent Nassau County buildings such as RXR’s Omni Building, Museum Row, the Mitchel Athletic Complex, and the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Unlimited spectator viewing areas throughout the course give family and friends the chance to offer moral support during the run. Advanced registration is available by mail until April 15th or online until April 28th. Registration this year is already up 10%. Costs are as follows: Full Marathon $67; Half Marathon $57; 10K $37; 5K $32; 1-mile $19. Late registration will be accepted on May 3rd and 4th during the Marathon Expo for an additional fee.
