About Information and Education
Authorized by Local Law 9-1967, the Information and Education Division develops and conducts programs of consumer education and information, increases the competence of consumers and encourages businesses to maintain high standards of honesty and fair trade practices. Specifically, the Office:
- Develops and distributes educational booklets, brochures and fact sheets
- Prepares press releases and public service announcements
- Responds to inquiries from the media
- Responds to requests under the Freedom of Information Law for records of licenses, complaints and violations
- Provides consumer education to schools and community groups through public presentations
- Provides information to the public on consumer topics
