Bogsted Announces Crackdown on Illegal Limos

Commissioner of Consumer Affairs Roger C. Bogsted today announced a crackdown on illegal limo operators who lack the appropriate licenses, registration and insurance.
The Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC), which operates under the Office of Consumer Affairs, and the Nassau County Police Department are working together to make sure both drivers and vehicles are in compliance with all TLC rules and regulations.

The operation targeted limousine owners who had prior unpaid violations and resulted in the seizure of 3 limousines. In total, 11 violations were issued and $9,450 in fines were collected. When vehicles are seized, the limousine company is required to send another vehicle to pick up the stranded passengers.

“There will be zero tolerance for limousine companies that do not comply with TLC regulations,” Bogsted said. “This is a very important safety issue, and we will not allow operators to place residents in jeopardy. In some cases, drivers were found to have suspended licenses and the vehicles they were driving were uninsured.”
