Did You Know?

DUMPING OF SNOW ONTO HANDICAPPED PARKING SPOTS IS ILLEGAL

Residents and snow removal businesses should be aware that the plowing or dumping of snow onto handicapped parking spots is illegal under section 1203-e of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. Fines of up to $100 can be issued for each offense.

Unfortunately and for reasons unknown, handicapped spots often are used as a repository for mounds of snow in parking lots both big and small.

Maybe some doing the plowing think "nobody disabled will be out in this weather" ; but those with disabilities, just like the able-bodied are out and about their daily routines…….. NO SNOW DAY…….. But in too many locations…. NO PARKING.

It is important to remind everyone that accessibility is the law…..not an option...
