Veterans Night at Jones Beach

The Country Rock Group Mary Lamont   will be the feature entertainment  at the Jones Beach Bandshell  Monday, August 24, 2009.  The first 50 veterans will receive a free gift  from Jiffy Lube and 300 Long Island Bowling.  The concert begins at 7:30 and park in field 4 and walk to Boardwalk.

POW/MIA Night Planned

Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 7:00 pm will be the start of the Annual POW/MIA  Recognition Day ceremony.  The event will take place at the Veterans Monument at Eisenhower Park and will last about one hour. 

5K Walk/Run For Michael Murphy

September 13, 2009 is the date for the special 5K Walk/Run in honor of Lt.  Michael Murphy.    The race begins at 9:00 A.M.  at Bethpage State Park-Polo Field.

American Legion Supports Bill

American Legion Nation Commander David K. Rehbein  has asked  all Americans to support the Detainee Photographic Records Protection Act.  This legislation already passed the Senate would  block dissemination of images that  could inflame tensions  and incite  violence against U.S. troops.

Nam Vets Again Press VA on Agent Orange

John Rowan, National President if the Vietnam Veterans of America has written VA Secretary Eric Shinseki  asking that ischemic heart disease, hypertension, and Parkinson’s disease be added to the list of presumptive service connected diseases.

Become a CERT Volunteer

CERT Training is a basic training that includes emergency preparedness, first aid, community and family safety, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, terrorism issues, and CERT procedures.  CERT is administered by  Nassau County .  Classes begin in Farmingdale on September 2, 2009.  Contact  the CERT Training Desk at (516) 573-0648.
