(Mineola, NY) Nassau County Clerk Maureen O'Connell, a registered nurse and member of the Farmingdale State College Nursing Department Advisory Board, recently attended the Board's annual meeting. Clerk O'Connell joined the discussion focusing on how the College and its Nursing Department plan to fulfill future needs and overcome the challenges facing the healthcare community in the future through new initiatives and training. Among the topics discussed were the ongoing shortage of skilled nurses and expected trends in nursing employment, the impact of cutting edge technology including electronic medical records, and the potential effects of healthcare reform on the nursing field. The Board also spoke about the implementation of simulated learning and how it enhances the educational experience for Nursing students through the use of technology to better develop and refine their skills.
