Difficulties Opening Acrobat Reader® (PDF) Format Files

You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader® installed on your computer to display and print .pdf files. Acrobat Reader is available free from the Adobe website.

There is a documented problem between Adobe Acrobat Reader® and certain web browsers, but it is easily resolved. First, print out these instructions, and then close out of your browser. If you do not close out of your browser, the changes will not be implemented until the next time you open your browser. However, once you make the appropriate changes, they will persist even after you shut off your computer.

IF YOU HAVE ADOBE ACROBAT READER 4:
Open your Acrobat Reader and go to File, then Preferences, then General. In the lower right-hand corner there is a box labeled "Web Browser Integration". Uncheck this box and close out of the Acrobat Reader. Then, go back to our website and try to access the document again. When you click on the link to open the document, you will see a dialog box asking whether you want to open the document from its current location or save it to disk. After you choose "Open from its current location", the document should display properly.

IF YOU CONTINUE TO HAVE DIFFICULTY, ANOTHER OPTION TO TRY, is to click on the pdf file link using your right mouse button. A menu should appear that includes the option "Save Target As" -or- "Save Link As". Left click on that option and save the pdf file to your computer in a location that you can recall later. After the download completes, start Adobe Acrobat Reader®, then select (from the pull down menu across the top of the screen) File/Open, and navigate to the pdf file you saved.
