County laws that protect consumers are generally enforced by the Office of Consumer Affairs. Jurisdiction for such enforcement provided for by the Nassau County Administrative Code or by the local law or ordinance.

Unfair Trade Practices
Administrative Code section 21-10.2
These provisions of the Nassau County Administrative Code apply to all business practices. In addition, the Office has adopted Rules and Regulations pursuant to these provisions which are applicable to certain businesses or practices.
Licensing Requirements and Penalities
Administrative Code section 21-11.0 et seq.Local Law 10-2004 Seizure of Unlicensed Contractor Vehicles and Tools
These provisions apply to the licensing and regulation of Home Improvement Contractors. In addition to these provisions, the Office has adopted Rules and Regulations applicable to licensees.
Weights and Measures
Administrative Code section 21-13.0New York State Agriculture and Markets Law Article 16New York Code of Rules and Regulations
These provisions provide for the enforcement of both New York State Law and County laws to ensure that consumers get what they pay for by volume or weight, and that the measuring devices used by merchants in consumer transactions are properly calibrated through periodic inspections by the Office of Consumer Affairs. These provisions in conjunction with State law provide for the investigation of complaints, the issuance of violations and the levying of fines.
Taxi and Limousine Registration and Penalties
This ordinance provides for the registration of all taxis, livery vehicles and limousines operating in the County, provide for the issuance of violations and the levying of fines for noncompliance. In addition, the Office has adopted Rules and Regulations to regulate the for-hire industry.
