All for-hire vehicles operating in Nassau County must be “registered” by the Nassau County Taxi and Limousine Commission (NCTLC) with minor exceptions such as for NYC Yellow Medallion metered cabs.
Operating is defined as dropping off or picking up passengers within Nassau County.
Nassau County has the authority to “register” licensed vehicles. Each registered vehicle must display the Nassau County Taxi and Limousine Commission registration decal or “diamond” (as depicted on the left) on the passenger side of the windshield. In addition, the Registration Card (also left) must be kept in the vehicle at all times. This registration diamond and card signifies that the vehicle is licensed and is therefore a known quantity, with proper safety and background checks, insurance, etc. Click here to learn more about licensing.
The registration diamond also provides for easy identification and allows for more efficient and effective countywide regulation and enforcement of the industry. For more information, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions.
