Who is Responsible for Licensing?

Nassau County does not "license" vehicles or drivers. Licensing of vehicles and drivers is done by other municipalities, for example, New York City, the Town of Hempstead, the Village of Valley Stream, etc.  Please contact your local city, town or village for more information.

Licensing typically consists of a vehicle safety check, requirements for proper insurance, disclosure of the owner of the vehicle, proper zoning of vehicle bases, owner and driver background checks, etc. A licensed company, vehicle or driver therefore provides a much greater level of protection and security to the riding public than an unlicensed company, vehicle or driver.

DO NOT USE UNREGISTERED OR UNLICENSED COMPANIES, VEHICLES OR DRIVERS.

Nassau County has the authority to “register” licensed vehicles. Click here to learn more about Registration.
