(MINEOLA – January 24, 2006) Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell today announced that internship opportunities for college credit are available in her office. The County
Clerk has varied duties from maintaining millions of vital legal documents and county records to
providing public information.
“It is my pleasure to provide this opportunity to students who wish to participate,” began
Ms. O’Connell. “I encourage those who may be considering a career in law, public administration, finance, communications, journalism and/or archival history, to join our dedicated staff to gain a rewarding experience that will enhance their education and expand their knowledge of local government,” added O’Connell.
In addition to securing and maintaining records, the County Clerk serves as a public
information office for the thousands of individuals that pass through her doors annually. “We
are looking for students who have a genuine interest in government and the ability to interact with
the public. A wide array of skills can be learned that can provide a beneficial experience,”
continued the Clerk. College students will get the opportunity to shadow County Clerk personnel, which include administrators, paralegals, attorneys, accountants, bookkeepers, recording clerks, legislative liaison and public information coordinator. “This internship provides students with an excellent learning opportunity as well as a chance to contribute to Nassau County’s greatness,” added the Clerk.
